This jacket takes its cue from the 4th-generation U.S. military fatigue jacket, minimizing unnecessary exterior seams and incorporating the felled-seam construction typically used in premium shirtmaking.
It’s crafted from Japanese cotton gabardine, providing a substantial weight and slight water repellency.
After the garment is completed, it undergoes a traditional mud-dye process from Amami Ōshima Island.
In this method, wood chips from 10- to 30-year-old bishop wood are simmered for 14–16 hours to extract tannins, which are then mixed with limestone powder for the first dye bath.
Next, the fabric is repeatedly immersed in the island’s mud, creating a deep, rich color. This process is repeated several times—sometimes up to 80–100 cycles—to achieve a near-black shade.
